How we make a difference

FAIBS hold a community activity day each month within the Sanctuary, usually on the third or fourth Sunday, welcoming volunteers of all ages and experience levels.

During the winter months, when many migratory birds are in the northern hemisphere, activities focus on caring for and restoring habitat. These include weed control, clean-up days, trail maintenance, revegetation, monitoring, education, and cultural events.

In the summer months, when migratory shorebirds return, we shift our focus to bird identification holding events on the shoreline. We provide a range of spotting scopes, and our committee members and park rangers are on hand to assist with spotting and identification. Shorebird identification days are dependent on tides but are usually from 8am.

Throughout the year, we also host special events such as screenings of the film Flyways, and presentations from ecologists and other experts. This year, being our 10th year, we are planning many extra events including a forum in October, so sign up to receive our event emails.
